Endemic to the high slopes of Haleakalā, the ʻāhinahina or Haleakalā silversword (Argyroxiphium sandwicense subsp. macrocephalum) thrives where few other plants can. This long-lived alpine species reflects silver light under the cosmos, with the dense core of the Milky Way rising above—a timeless meeting of Earth and sky unique to Maui.
